Freeride Workshops

We offer you the unique opportunity to test your personal freeride rescue equipment and learn how to use it. To complete the individual preparation our workshop includes a guided freeride downhill run.

Freeride Workshop Basis

Target

Participants learn the basics of avalanche awareness. This enables them to make simpler decisions independently and help to understand interrelationships that are more complex.

Requirements

The course is aimed at snow sports enthusiasts who want to make their first experiences off the secured slopes and master their snow sports equipment in all conditions.

Program / Procedure

  • Theory of Freeriding (approx. 1.5 hour)
    • Cartography
    • Meteorology
    • Snow build-up
    • Tour preparation based on the avalanche bulletin
  • Implementation of theory in open terrain (variant descent)
    • Line selection
    • Behaviour in mountainous terrain
    • Group organisation
    • Recognize danger signs and terrain forms
  • Lunch break outdoors (Please bring your own lunchpaket)
  • Rescue procedure in case of emergency, handling avalanche beacons, shovels and probes in mountainous terrain

Freeride Workshop Advanced Course

Target

The participants deepen their existing knowledge in the planning of tours and can then implement what they have learned in the terrain according to the conditions. They will learn how to move safely and efficiently in a group off-piste. In addition, the handling of the safety-relevant equipment is specifically trained and practiced.

Requirements

The course is aimed at snow sports enthusiasts who already have knowledge of avalanche awareness and have already attended a basic avalanche course or a similar course.

Program / Procedure

Saturday

  • Rescue procedure in case of emergency, handling of avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe in case of single and multiple burial
  • Theory block with focus on the tour planning of the following day

Sunday

  • Execution of the planned tour with focus on
    • Assessment of the key sections
    • line choice
    • Group organization and dynamic
  • snow profiling, recognizing snow layers

Lift pass For the first day no lift pass is required. The subscription for the second day will be determined on the basis of the tour planning.

Equipment

Complete freeride equipment incl. avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel (can be obtained from the snow sports school). Ascent aids are not required. Telescopic poles for snowboarders are an advantage.
